No subscription or monthly fees are required to use this tracking device. Because it avoids cellular networks and active standalone GPS hardware, you do not pay any ongoing service or subscription costs.
This product uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proximity detection. Since the device doesn't have its own GPS, it works by emitting a secure Bluetooth signal every two seconds. Nearby Apple devices (like phones, tablets, or computers) detect this signal and securely upload the location to Apple’s iCloud servers, which then allows to see its precise location on the map. Because of this, it can be used globally with no distance limit, provided there are Apple devices within about 10–50 meters of it. Essentially, the more Apple devices in the area, the more frequently and quickly the location will update.
